Two Georgia Women Charged with Murder in Elder Abuse Case

A 48-year-old Georgia woman and her 18-year-old daughter were sent to jail near Augusta, Georgia and charged with murder in an elder abuse case against their aunt, whom they were caring for. Authorities discovered the body of their 85-year-old aunt in her home two weeks ago and an autopsy revealed that she died of neglect.

Authorities stated that she was found in unsanitary conditions and she had bed sores on her body. Police believed the elderly woman had been dead for some time and were still trying to determine if more charges should be filed in this case.

When a person reaches old age and they no longer have the ability to care for themselves, the person who is placed in charge of caring for them should do everything they possibly can in order to make their lives easier and increase their quality of life. A high quality of life is often very difficult for an elderly person to reach on their own so they rely on relatives to provide assistance for them. Unfortunately as this incident demonstrates, the number of cases of elder neglect and abuse continue to rise because people either do not have the means to help their elderly loved ones or they simply do not care enough to help them.

Elderly people deserve respect and care just like anybody else does. If we are sick or in dire need of medical assistance, we would expect medical professionals or our relatives to help us get the care we need in order to survive. Elderly people would want and deserve the same treatment for their ailments. They should not be left alone lying in a bed or lying in unsanitary conditions because we do not have the means by which to help them. If you don’t have the means to help your elderly loved ones, you should contact a medical professional who can assist you either by providing the assistance you need or by helping you find someone who can provide the care your loved ones need. Unless people take big steps to get elderly people the medical help they need, elder abuse and neglect cases will continue to rise throughout the United States.
