Elderly Woman Left to Die While Daughter Goes On Vacation
As you get older it can be difficult to admit that you need help or that you have to rely on another person to do the simple tasks you used to do everyday. Some elderly individuals entrust their family members with their care and well-being and assume that you are in good hands. Unfortunately in some cases family members will neglect or endanger their elderly family members and cause them physical and emotional anguish in the process.
In Australia, an elderly woman was left in the care of her daughter who is a registered nurse and died of neglect. The daughter left her 91-year-old mother alone while she vacationed for two weeks in the United States. She was well aware that her mother would not be able to wash or change her clothes for the entire two weeks and so she left her casseroles on her bedside table to be eaten within two days, and fruit, biscuits and tinned food.
The daughter also left her a toilet in her room but she admitted that her mother would be unable to empty the toilet and dispose of any waste. She also purchased and fitted her mother with incontinence pads before her departure. The elderly woman’s great nephew came to check on her but the mother insisted she was fine and that she would contact him if she needed anything. The medical examiner stated that the mother had suffered an untreated broken ankle that impaired her mobility greatly.
The woman who was supposed to be taking care of her mother should be charged with neglect among many other things. If family members are overwhelmed by the task of being a caretaker, they should hire someone to take care of their loved one or submit them into some type of living facility where they will always have someone to care for them. If it is too late, your family should seek justice for the caretaker’s neglect and shameful behavior as soon as possible.
