House Fire In Elderly Woman's Home Causes Injury

House fires can be caused by a variety of things and most of the dangers lie especially in the kitchen. A woman in Axedale, Australia had to be treated for smoke inhalation after her house caught on fire.

According to reports, the fire started in the kitchen around 7:30pm. There were five people in the house when the fire started, but they were all able to escape the premises. The neighbors assisted the elderly woman until an ambulance arrived and treated her from smoke inhalation. She required no further treatment and was not taken to the hospital. The fire caused between $5000 and $8000 in damages. The fire itself took firefighters 30 minutes to contain and was confined to the kitchen; unfortunately the fire caused smoke damage to other parts of the house. It is important to remind family members of the safety precautions to take during cooking and to not leave anything unattended. Elderly individuals must also take precautions and if possible have supervision cooking especially if they suffer from any type of serious medical ailment.

If this elderly woman was supposed to be under the supervision of a caretaker, the caretaker could be held responsible for damages that the fire caused. Or if the caretaker herself caused the fire she could be held liable for the damages or injuries the fire caused. While this woman appeared to not have needed any medical attention, there are many elderly individuals who are not so lucky. It is important to make sure that you or your loved ones are kept safe and are informed on fire safety.
