Man Arrested For Aggravated Assault, Elder Abuse
In Tennessee, a 42-year-old man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, burglary, and elder abuse after he allegedly beat a 77-year-old elderly woman with a shoe. Police arrived at the victim’s home where they found the woman laying in the hallway with several injuries. The extent of those injuries is not stated in the report.
The perpetrator was later found hiding in the bathroom of the home. During an interview with the victim, she revealed to authorities that the perpetrator had been living in the residence on an on-again-off-again basis and he got angry at her when she finally locked him out of her residence. The man then broke through a window and began beating the woman. When the perpetrator was transported to a correctional facility, he began showing signs of lethargy. The police transported him to a medical facility but he was cleared and returned to the correctional facility.
This is one of many incidents demonstrating how a person can easily become angered and lash out at another person, especially if they are physically or mentally weaker than they are. The 77-year-old woman could not possibly have defended herself against the perpetrator in this incident. The fact that this incident all started because of an argument over the man’s living arrangements, demonstrates how quickly a verbal altercation can turn violent and the victims in those cases can suffer extremely serious injuries. Although the woman did suffer injuries in this attack, it is not known how severe those injuries really were. There is no reason why this incident should have turned violent the way it did. The verbal altercation about the man’s living arrangements could have easily been resolved and this incident could have been avoided entirely. Fortunately, the woman will be able to see justice served on her behalf by the authorities in Tennessee.
