Elderly Woman Freed from Bathtub After Four Days

Austrian Independent has reported that a woman was discovered trapped in her bathtub. 78-year-old Maria Rauscher was found by her daughter when she showed up to visit her. Rauscher was trapped in the bathtub for four days because she was unable to get up from the tub.

The report states that Rauscher told her daughter that she went in to bathe and was unable to get out and screamed for help to no avail. The 78-year-old woman lives on her own. She did not suffer any sort of injuries resulting from her confinement.

This incident defines one of the more serious problems, which is when an elderly individual is forced to live on their own. Although Rauscher may not have been forced, this incident would not have taken place if somebody had been there with her to assist her in any way she may have needed. As a person ages, they begin to lose the ability to fend for themselves the way most younger people are able to. Nursing and adult care facilities have been established to prevent incidents like this. If there is no one to care for an elder individual, they should have someone hired to care for them in-home or in a nursing home facility. That is the safest way to prevent injuries or incidents such as this one.
