Albuquerque Woman Jailed For Robbing Elderly Mother-In-law

A woman in Albuquerque, NM has been sent to jail for three years following an incident where she and her former husband stole approximately $40,000 from her mother-in-law. 32-year-old Christina Dreischmeyer will spend three years in prison on charges of fraud, neglect, residential abuse and attempted larceny against her 72-year-old mother-in-law.

Dreischmeyer’s former husband Chris Maecker is also in custody facing similar charges related to this incident. There is no report on whether Maecker will face jail time or not. According to the report, the 72-year-old woman suffers from dementia. The initial investigation began when some documents were found that contained information pertaining to the theft.

It’s bad enough when a person decides to steal money or property from an elderly individual but it is far worse when that elderly individual is the person’s mother. It is much more cruel because a person would never suspect any of their family members, let alone their own kids, to steal from them no matter what the circumstances may be. People always want to believe that their family members would never harm them either physically or emotionally but this incident demonstrates that, unfortunately, this is not always the case.
