Texas Nursing Home Receives Complaints for Lack of Air Conditioning

The website woai.com has reported that they have received several complaints about a San Antonio nursing home that reportedly has not had air conditioning for several weeks. The complaints stem from the fact that residents have been asked on numerous occasions to remain out of the dining room area and eat in their rooms because of the lack of air conditioning.

The report states that they have sent the complaints to the Department of Aging and Disabilities and an investigation into the complaints is currently underway as of the publication of this report. There is no report on what other complaints have been made against the nursing home as yet.

Many people consider air conditioning a luxury and not a requirement for a home. However, truthfully everybody, whether they live in a nursing home or their own home, deserves to have at least some creature comforts in order to be happy. It is not right for a nursing home to neglect fixing the air conditioning and instead asking residents to modify their way of living simply because they have not fixed the problem. The fact that the air conditioning has not been working for several weeks borders on elder negligence because it takes away from the elderly individual’s comfort and could potentially take away from the care they receive.
